Carefully Selected Materials
It all starts with our materials. We use only full-grain leathers from environmentally responsible tanneries. Unlike lower-quality corrected grain leather, our full-grain leather develops a beautiful patina over time. Its natural grains provide strength, durability, and a supple feel.
For linings, we choose breathable, sweat-wicking leathers for comfort. Our insoles are made from molded latex cushioning or removable memory foam to provide all-day support. Finally, our rubber outsoles are hand-stitched for flexibility and traction.
Precision Cutting and Stitching
Using time-honored techniques, our shoemakers cut each leather component by hand with extreme precision. The pieces are then hand-stitched together using durable waxed threads. Stitch patterns follow the contours of the foot to eliminate uncomfortable pressure points.
For dress shoes, we use a traditional Goodyear welt construction. This allows the upper leather to be stitched to the sole for flexibility and long-lasting wear.
Meticulous Lasting and Assembly
During lasting, the upper leather is molded to the foot-shaped last by hand. This gives the shoes their form, balance, and overall comfort. The soles are then carefully hand-stitched to the uppers using traditional techniques like the Blake stitch.
Finally, our shoemakers apply the edge trim and decorative perforations by hand. The shoes are polished and brushed multiple times for a refined finish.
